Rev. James HopkinsPastor
Pastor Hopkins has served Lutheran Church of The Way since summer 2015. Before coming to us, Pastor Hopkins attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN, where he earned his Master of Divinity Degree (MDiv) focusing on Systematic Theology and Ethics. He also holds a B.A. from Northern Illinois University and performed post-graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Pastor Hopkins is presently pursuing his PhD at the Vrije Universitiet in Amsterdam, studying the role of gratitude and humility in the theology and spirituality of Chrysostom and Luther. Prior to attending the Seminary and entering into the Office of The Holy Ministry, Pastor Hopkins served as a linguist, Strategic Debriefer, and analyst for the Marine Corps and the Department of Defense. He is proficient in Spanish and Portuguese, and works hard to keep up his Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. He and His wife, Caroline, hail from Chicago and remained devout Cubs fans, even during the century-plus of wandering in the wilderness. Their daughter, Lucia, can be heard scringing (screaming and singing) at the 8 or the 11 o’clock Services!
